When children and even animals are being abused the police and social services have the power to intervene immediately. However no such protection is in place for the elderly and vulnerable adults. Hence the horrendous case outlined in the report.

The disturbing footage emerged after the victim’s family noticed bruising on the elderly woman’s face. Carmen Pereira, 52, was arrested after the woman’s relatives showed police the footage from a Skype feed set up to record continuously in the patient’s room in New Jersey, US. The camera had been set up so the family could communicate more easily with the woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Pereira had been with the family for 11 years and there had never been any sign there was a problem before, the family has said. “Heartbreaking, it is, to see your own mother abused by a person whom you trusted for so many years,” said her daughter Bernadine Samin, who lives in Virginia. Pereira has been charged with assault and neglect charges, and has been released on bail. The victim’s daughters Ms Samin and Cresencia Obaldo, from Jersey City, said they had allowed police to release the video to raise awareness of this sort of abuse.

THE LAST TIME I SAW AMAZING 100 YEAR OLD PEGGY ALIVE!! Ever since I found out that Mary Carr-the head of the AMA American Medical Association in Ventura California, was supposed to be her “caretaker-power of attorney” but yet, unconscionably allowed Peggy to be infested by cockroaches, rats and even rat feces in her food! Mary Carr took Peggy’s only comfy chair. She was wallowing in her own filth until a group of concerned citizens got involved to improve her horrible living conditions. When Mary Carr discovered that I was documenting the tragic and willful elder abuse of Peggy Ellen Pallant. Including one time I found her on the floor of her trailer, trapped, freezing and starving to death despite having millions of dollars in the bank that Mary could have used to better her situation. Peggy Ellen Pallant had the funds to live properly but gave away her power of attorney. By signing power of attorney to Mary Carr-which was like signing her death warrant because Mary did nothing to better Peggy’s life-actually taking away her comfy chair as well, despite repeated pleas by us to have it returned. Mary Carr basically forced Peggy to live in horrible rat–cockroach infested conditions with NO healthy food! See for yourself-I can’t make this up. I was shocked when I discovered that Mary Carr was supposed to be helping Peggy not letting her rot. On several occasions she complained that Peggy smelled of feces and she didn’t want her in church-WHY NOT CLEAN HER DIAPER OR HIRE …

Older Americans are losing .9 billion annually to elder financial abuse, a 12 percent increase from the .6 billion estimated in 2008, according to “The MetLife Study of Elder Financial Abuse: Crimes of Occasion, Desperation, and Predation Against America’s Elders.” Crimes involving strangers made up more than half (51 percent) of reported cases Next were crimes involving family, friends and neighbors as perpetrators (34 percent) Exploitation from the business sector accounted for 12 percent of reported cases. Medicare and Medicaid fraud represented four percent. Robberies and crimes classified as “scams perpetrated by strangers” increased from nine percent to 28 percent from 2008 to 2010. Other major findings from the study, which was produced in collaboration with the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA) and the Center for Gerontology at Virginia Tech, include: Women were nearly twice as likely to be victims of elder financial abuse as men. Most victims were between the ages of 80 and 89, lived alone and required some help with either healthcare or home maintenance. Nearly 60% of perpetrators were males, mostly between ages 30 and 59. Victims were particularly vulnerable during the holidays when overall dollar losses due to family and friends were higher than any other category.

Please be careful if you have elderly persons in this hospital. They did not take my father out of bed for 7 months, causing blood clots to develop in his legs The doctors and administration made false allegations against me due to my questioning of their care (or lack thereof). Beware and protect your’ loved ones. My father and mother died nine months apart due to the lack of quality care offered by this hospital. Be it one “final” autopsy report differing greatly from another “final” autopsy report (for the same patient), things ARE NOT DONE PROPERLY at Beaumont Royal Oak!!! Mom and Dad, I love & miss you dearly.
